Sam Burtis
Sam Burtis graduated from Ithaca College in 1965 and from Burklee School of Music in 1968, and is an active trombone player and teacher in the New York City area. He is currently trombonist and transcriber/arranger with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and also gives many individual clinics and masterclasses in universities and conservatories both nationally and internationally. His recently published trombone method book, The American Trombone, is rapidly becoming a standard reference for trombonists who wish to be able to play in both Western European orchestral styles and the many North and South American styles. His latest record “Let’s Try It Again” is a collaboration with percussionist Cleve Pozar, written and performed primarily by Burtis and Pozar for four trombones and bata drum ensemble. (Shires)
