Capitol Bones
Capitol Bones, a jazz trombone ensemble featuring musicians from the Washington, D.C. area, exhibits great ensemble playing in a wide variety of styles. In addition to arrangements of jazz standards, the Capitol Bones have added new works to the jazz trombone ensemble repertoire by such notables as Conrad Herwig, Mike Tomaro, Mark Taylor, Jim Roberts and Tony Nalker. Group founder and leader Matt Niess, who is lead trombonist with The Army Blues jazz ensemble, is dedicated to promoting the trombone and expanding the repertoire of this unique medium.
Since its inception in 1991, The Capitol Bones have performed at the International Trombone Festival, The International Association of Jazz Educators, numerous jazz festivals, universities and annual appearances at the Eastern Trombone Workshop. They are prior winners of the Kai Winding jazz trombone ensemble award. Their CDs “My Favorite Things” and “Epistrophy” are available on the Seabreeze Jazz label.
