
Trevor Herbert
Trevor
Herbert was born in Wales and educated at Exeter University, the Royal College
of Music and the Open University. He has played trombone with most UK orchestras
and opera companies, and was a member of the period instrument groups Musica
Reservata and the Taverner Players. He was also a member of the Wallace Collection.
In 1976 he joined the academic staff of the UK's Open University, where he
is now Professor of Music and Associate Dean. He has written extensively
on brass instruments, and was awarded the Historic Brass Society's Christopher
Monk Award in 2002. He is co-editor (with John Wallace) of The Cambridge
Companion to Brass Instruments and co-author of the entry on the trombone
in the New Grove Dictionary of Music. His book The Trombone will be published
by Yale University Press later in 2005.
