Kenny
Carr is known as one of the world’s premier soulful jazz trombonists,
composer and producer. Kenny is the original recording artist of shout band
music internationally, with such instrumentation as sousaphone, baritone,
trombone, drums, trumpet and piano. Kenny, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina,
has been said to be soulful jazz’s best kept diamond.
His music adventure began at the early age of six, when he began playing the trumpet in the church band. He continued to pursue other instruments such as the drums, baritone, bass horn and the piano; he never ceased to amaze the thousands of people listening to him while he played.
Kenny later decided to pursue his professional career as a soulful brass trombonist, as a result of this decision Kenny and his group The Tigers became known as a bona fide fresh sound in the music world. Throughout his career he has shared the stage and recorded with some of the world’s greatest musicians: Ramsey Lewis, Wycliffe Gordon, Jonathan Butler, Vickie Winans, John P. Kee, OutKast and Gladys Knight.
Kenny’s music has gained him international news and press; he has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, the Brass Journal News of Switzerland, ITEC, International Brass Journal of Budapest, Hungary, Oxford American Magazine, BET, MTV, VH1 and TBN Television.
Kenny is currently touring the United States and Europe along with producing and directing music videos of such major International artists as Billboard’s leading producer Mario Williams, Bishop Ronald Brown and the new jazz artist known as Sam Jenkins. This latest album, entitled Sound the Alarm, has recently been released.
