New initiatives are in the works for the 2018 JrITF, now called the YOUTH WORKSHOP AT THE INTERNATIONAL TROMBONE FESTIVAL.
We are excited to announce that Christopher Bill, internationally known for his innovative online presence and multi-style performances, will be taking on the Coordinator position for 2018. Bill will be a part of overseeing all aspects of the Workshop program, and is working hard to create an energizing and educational program for the younger players of the ITF!
Check out the 2017 Recap below!
We are also excited to announce that Chicago-based trombone teacher Tim Riordan of the Merit School of Music will be joining the team for 2018!
The YOUTH WORKSHOP promises to be our best educational program yet! Be sure to stay tuned for updates!
We are very interested in attending and having our daughter be a part of the youth program. Is there a mailing list we can get on so we are sure not to miss out?

Are the housing plans available yet?
Hi! Youth Workshop participants will have housing opportunities in the university dorms. Registration information, including costs, will be posted by January of 2018. Be sure to follow us on social media, or subscribe to our website to keep up to date with new information. Thanks!
We are interested in having our son attend. He is a freshman in college majoring in trombone performance. What is involved with making arrangements for him to attend? He would be staying with his grandfather who lives nearby.
Hi there! Thank you for your interest in the International Trombone Festival at the University of Iowa! To answer your question, the Youth Workshop is for attendees age 17 and younger (at the time of the Festival). Those wishing to attend who are age 18 and up, should register for the full ITF, which will include a variety of concerts and mater classes, in addition to participant trombone choirs, which give all attendees a chance to rehearse and perform. Attendees at the Youth Workshop will have some special programming, geared specifically toward the developing trombonist, and will also attend selected events within the ITF program. All attendees will have housing options, including on-campus dorms, and local hotels, but are also free to stay off-site. Registration information, including housing, will be posted to the website by January. In the meantime, be sure to follow us on social media, or subscribe to our site to stay up to date on the latest news!
Thank you!
Will the dorms be opened to parents of participants?
Vicki – UI has divided the dorms between adults and youth, so parents desiring to stay in the dorms would be required to stay on the adult side.
Hello, my son is a junior in high school and interested in attending. Is the information available to apply yet? Also are parents required to stay for the duration? I would obviously love to stay but will probably be unable to take off work that many days in a row. Thanks
Hi Amanda – Thank you for your interest in the Youth Workshop! Registration will be open soon. Please follow us on social media (or here on our website) to receive updates. Students will stay in the UI dorms, and counselors will be provided, so you will not have to stay with your son on campus. Hope that helps! We are looking forward to seeing you in Iowa City!
