Artist Spotlight: Jose Milton Viera

Principal Trombone Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre, José Milton Vieira is a young trombonist who is becoming increasingly prominent in the Brazilian and international musical scene.  He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras in his native country Brazil, and has performed in the United States, France, Switzerland, Venezuela, Germany, and Italy.

Among his major achievements include: First Prize and the Public Prize in the 26 ° Concorso Internazionale “Città di Porcia” (Italy-2015); First Prize in the “Lewis Van Haney Philharmonic Prize Competition” at the 2012 ITF in Paris, France, and First Prize in the Solo Competition of ‘Pre-Estreia’, a nationally televised  competition produced by TV Cultura, São Paulo, Brazil.

José Milton Vieira studied at the Escola de Música de Brasilia, Universidade de Brasília, and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. In addition to his performances with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Porto Alegre in Brazil, José is also is a member of the Quinteto Porto Alegre and a teacher at the Conservatório Pablo Komlós.
