The ITF Board and Staff is excited to feature
New York-based, Jazz/multi-style trombonist, composer, and arranger, Sara Jacovino
As an Artist for our 2021 program, in Columbus, GA!
Tenor/bass trombonist Sara Jacavino is not only a regular on the New York scene , but is widely acclaimed as a composer and arranger as well. Performing on Broadway in such shows as Tina, Elf, and Hurcules, she has been equally successful in the Jazz realm, regularly appearing with such groups as The Birdland Big Band, The Manhattan Bridges Orchestra, and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. She can be heard on studio recordings with renown Jazz-fusion band, Snarky Puppy, and has toured the world as a member of the the Diva Jazz Orchestra. As a composer, Jacovino was the Winner of the the BMI Foundation’s Charlie Parker Composition Award/Manny Album Commission, the Airmen of Note’s Sammy Nestico Award, and has received multiple awards from Downbeat Magazine, including Best Original Song and Best Extended Composition.
Jacovino’s career is also one of breaking barriers. Together with fellow ITF Artist Jen Wharton, Jacovino was a member of the first female trombone section on Broadway, in the 2019 run of King Kong. According to Wharton, the past decade has seen only a total of total of four women holding any trombone chair in Broadway shows, so the Jacavino/Wharton section is certainly a significant milestone.

Jacovino was also a notable member of the world-renown, Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas, and was featured both as a soloist and a composer on albums from 2006-2008.
Jacovino holds both a bachelor and masters degree from the University of North Texas, where she studied composition with Neil Slater and Paris Rutherford, and trombone with Steve Weist and Tony Baker. Sara is an XO performing artist.
